I like most of my other classes. My first class is Chemistry, and i know 2 people in the classroom so it helps make time fly by. My teacher is short and bald, he has a goofy laugh but it humors us. There are many different people in that class, a lot of women in the class are from the ages 26 to 45. I think it is good for them to go back to school, or even be going to college for the first time. It is never too late to go back to school. This might be bad to say but I am not a people person at all. I do not like to deal with stupid and annoying people, so thats why I am very conservative. I will talk to anyone, but most of the time I don't reach out to meet people. Someone might think that I am stuck up, but in reality I am the most outgoing person anyone will meet. I am also a very opinionated person. My second class of the day is Algebra, I am very good at math. I know one person in that class, he is a former coworker. My teacher likes to laugh at his own jokes, but no one else thinks they are funny. It is a two hour and twenty minute class and I cannot stand to sit for that long. At my job I am constantly on my feet so it hurts to sit that long. My final class of the day is Com1110. I don't know what to think of the class yet, but I am sure it will be okay. When I heard that our final exam is an oral report I kind of freaked out but I don't really know why. My senior year in high school I took Successful Speaking and I passed the class without any problems. We had to make a 15 minute speech on my opinion about the drinking age. We had to do a debate against a person opposing my argument. I won the debate so I knew I must be doing something right. But sitting here thinking, I knew every person in that class, and if I I'm, I did by the second week. I think it scares me in Com1110 because I don't know any one in the room, so I don't want people judging me.
Alyssa I totally agree with how you feel. I am the same way with meeting new people I am always afraid no one will like me. Also I think it is great to for people that are the ages of 26 to 45 to go back to college as well. I definitely agree with you about dealing with stupid annoying people, that is mainly why I was not happy in high school, considering that is all the kind of people that were ever in my classes. I still do not know why people have to be rude and have to be immature in classes, it is very annoying! For the com 1110 class when I also heard about the oral exam, I was not exactly happy about that either! I really dislike doing oral exams, but I really need to over come that. So I am hoping that by doing the oral exam I will overcome my fears of getting judged. But I also think you are in my first year experience class by the way! Hopefully your classes go good for you!
Hi Alyssa! I agree with a lot of the things you said. The only class I have in common with you is Comm 1110. I also don't know what to make of the class yet. It kind of scares me because I am not a person that likes to write at all. About the final exam, I am so nervous too! I had a speech class in high school and passed with an A but it with people I knew. When I'm in a situation where I don't know anyone I tend to get worked up. I'm sure we'll all do great though! Meeting new people is hard even when your in college. I still find it hard to talk to people I don't know, just because I don't want them to judge me or think of me as a bad person. By the looks of it you seem like a very nice person!
I'm in that age group and I'm really happy about the fact I'm not the only one. I like to see everyone from different back grounds in class. I think some type of teachers never change.
I totally agree with you about the oral exam! I hate talking in front of people. I guess it is a good thing I am taking Public Speaking this year. Com 1110 is the only class I have with you. I also have a lot of adults in my classes.
I completely understand what you mean when you said you dont want to talk in front of the class, thats one of the most difficult things for me, especially in front of people i dont even know. I know I need to get over that fear though because if I dont now I really wont want to do it later.
Alyssa, I totally agree with how you feel. I have a hard time meeting new people for the first time. I dont have a problem with saying hi to someone I just find it hard to create a conversation with people. I think most of this is because I consider myself a shy and consciousness person and one who is very conservative. I like it this way because just like you I also find it hard to be around certain people who annoy me. I have found that in classes people behaviors is distracting by the way they talk in class while the teacher is speaking or they are messing with their phones, this annoys me terrilbly. I think the reason for me to be shy and conservative is because I grew up not being around alot of people and right out of High school I got married and was a stay at home mom who raised 4 beautiful children. I appriciate your thoughtfulness on how you feel about older adults going back to school or to College to better educate themselves. A couple of years after being out of highschool I decided to go get my G.E.D. and that is something that I am very proud of doing because now that I am older I dont have to worry about taking G.E.D classes before starting College. I can now concentrate on going to college to futher educate myself. I am attending College to get a degree in Business Administration. Business Management would of been my second choice ( both degrees contain about the same classes though). I am glad that I am getting the opportunity to have a second chance in life, the next chapter in my life. I am not for sure what your job title is at your work but I also can relate to you about being on your feet all day. I am part of the Team Leader crew and we are constantly on our feet. Yes it does feel good to sit down and relax for a short but to sit for a long time like we are doing in our classes does make your butt hurt.
Mary I am glad that you decided to go to college. I know I already talked to you about this the other day. I don't think there is anything wrong with getting married out of high school and start having kids. My parents did that and they don't regret a single day. My mom always worked for a factory and she talks about how much she hates it now. I try to convince my mom to go back to school but I know she wont do it. She thinks that she can just rough out anything but in reality she isn't happy and she should do what makes her happy. She is still young enough to do what she wants. I am her last kid and she is only 42. I think it is awesome that you decided to come back. I hope from our conversation the other day that your husband is more accepting to you going to college. How old are your children? Are they supportive of you? I know you work third shift, how is that affecting your school work?
I appreciate your kind words about how you are glad that I decided to go to college. Their isen't many people in the world with a big heart like yours. Your right Alyssa, your mom is still young. I wish your mom lots of happiness for the future in everything and anything she does. I dont regret having my children at a young age because now I can enjoy life while they are raising their family. And now they get to go through the same thing their dad and I went through when they were growing up. "Laugh out loud". I see plenty of young moms like me ,that was in my grade, and they have children who just graduated from school this year. I always think back and say to myself "wow" im glad my children are grown up all ready. Now I can do what I want to in life. I have the same feeling as your mom. I do what I can do and do it with the best capabilities that I can. I'm not for sure how many brothers and sisters you have but I am the youngest of 7 children. I have 6 brothers and a twin sister. I consider myself the best child out of the family because I am the only one that has truly structured my life to the best benefit. September 28th will be my 14th year at the factory where I work at now. I make medical parts, airplane parts and lenses for eye surgery. It seems like I'v been their my whole life though. It's not a bad place to work and the job is easy, its just that their is no room to move up the step ladder. It sounds like your mom is trying to be tough and stick with the job she has even though it makes her unhappy. Our company went Lean and lost alot of people. This caused me to start putting my application into other factories. The reason for this was because I needed the security to know that if our company was no longer gona be in business I still needed a job to pay the bills. It turned out I had 2 interviews but was not called to work in their corporation. I have the factory experience but I was just thinking that I may be to over-qualified because I have more than 1 job title. My happinesss has disappeared and I wish I could find it back. I am the only one that can change it by taking control of the situation, but I haven't yet. Just to go into a short detail on my husband, no he does not appriciate me going to college and I am the one working. I have 4 children. 2 girls and 2 boys. Their ages are 27, 29, 21, 20. I have 6 grandchildren from my children and on my husbands side their is four more. My children are very supportive of me going to college and I appreciate their thoughtfullness in supporting me. With school and work though I dont get to spend much time with my grandchildren like I want to. I miss the close bond we have together. Yes I work 3d shift. It took me close to three months to get used to the change I made going to third shift and school at the same time. I had always worked first. It's only been around 5 months since I started working 3d. With so much happening at home, work, and school it is beginning to stress me terrible and its not work or school that is causing it. I have got to get my head back on and keep focusing on school, for that is my number one goal and I dont want to screw it up.
Mary I really appreciate what you said about my big heart. I truly do have a big heart and not many people see that. I feel bad that you cannot find happiness, but I hope you do really soon. Don't pay attention to your husband about the school issue. You need to do what is best for you, he is just jealous. I am the youngest of 3. I have a brother and sister. My sister Ashleigh is 25, married and has two beautiful children. Her kids are named Brooklynn who is 2 and Brancen who is 5 months old. My brother Aaron is 21. Its kind of funny that my parents names are Jack and Diane like the song. It sucks that you don't get to spend much time with your grandchildren. I am glad that your children are very supportive of you going back to school. I still think it is horrible that you don't get much sleep. Working 3rd and then going to school until 3:15 is crazy. Don't try to let yourself get stressed out. I understand it is hard but try to live your life and be as happy as you can possibly be. I hope things at home get better for you i really do. If you ever need anything I am more than happy to help out if you need someone to talk to.
I absolutely cannot stand my algebra class. My math class is 2 hours and twenty minutes long. My teacher is really old and he laughs at his own jokes. He gets nervous in class when he says something. Every time he puts a problem on the board it is normally wrong and we have to correct him. He takes forever to explain a problem and he drags out class as long as he can. Normally it takes only an hour to learn the new stuff he is teaching and we have an hour and a half left of class. Recently he started doing an hour review before he starts on a new lesson. after we review and he starts a new lesson, he gives us a 5 minute break. well during that time, half of our class leaves. I think by now he should get the hint that he is doing something wrong that no one wants to be in his class. Everything we have learned this year and are going to learn is review from my freshman year in high school. I already know how to do everything in his classroom. I do not know why me or anyone else in my classroom are in that class. I think it is only helpful for the older people who haven't been to school in a while. If i already know everything in that class I do not see why I should have to show up to class to just see the same things everyday. I get bored easily and knowing everything in that class already doesn't help. I sit on my phone the whole time and text the girl in front of me and the guy beside me. We all have had that class in high school and we know everything already. Sorry for venting but i absolutely hate this class.
